In a notable legal case, a woman in her thirties has received a prison sentence for falsely accusing her biological father of rape. This accusation came after he declined her request for financial support, despite having previously funded her education abroad.
On the 1st of the month, information from legal circles revealed that the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court's Criminal Division 1, led by Judge Choi Chi-bong, sentenced the woman, referred to as A, to a 10-month imprisonment. The charges against her included defamation, business obstruction, and insult.

A was prosecuted for making 11 posts on an online forum from May to June of the previous year. These posts, titled "I am a victim of familial sexual violence. Please look at this," were aimed at tarnishing the reputation of her father, B.
Her accusations included false statements such as claiming continuous sexual abuse by her father since she was four, and that her mother was also subjected to domestic and sexual violence. She also alleged a settlement of 30 million won and demanded severe punishment.
In her posts, A disclosed B's full name and business details, reportedly causing significant disruption to his business operations.
Additionally, she accused B of having an affair with a woman named C, whom he allegedly married later, making six separate online posts about it.

In February 2021, A pursued legal action for damages against B in the Incheon District Court, pertaining to alleged sexual assault, yet she failed to present any substantial evidence of illegal conduct.
During her criminal trial, A maintained that her statements were truthful. However, the court, referencing the outcome of her lawsuit, rejected her claims due to a lack of concrete evidence or circumstances supporting her accusations of habitual sexual abuse by B.
The court also considered it plausible that A's claims were unfounded, given B's financial assistance during her studies and after her return, and the timing of her accusation following a denied request for a large sum of money to start a café.

The judiciary underscored the gravity of A’s actions, remarking, "Her dissemination of false information stemmed from frustration over financial support denial. The reputational damage to the victims is irreparable."
Explaining the rationale for the sentence, the court noted, "The likelihood of recidivism remains high as she continues posting similar content post-crime. Moreover, the victims' strong demand for significant punishment was a key consideration in the sentencing decision."
